The quest for a repeatable golf swing

Medicus Dual Hinge Driver

Archive for the ‘perfect golf swing’ Category

I was at a Golf store called golf galaxy hitting in their machine that measured your swing speed and displayed results ON computer screen. I was hitting a 5 iron 235 3 iron 250 and taylormade burner 8.5 loft 325. Man was i shocked my clubhead speed was 95 105 mph and launch angle was 14 deg I also Hit a 15 deg cobra 295 yards. The clerk said I was hitting Absolutely perfect and clubhead speed isn’t everything. Sounds to me like it means nothing I hit in that machine before and only hit 260 with a launch angle of 19 deg with my driver.
Have I found the secret to golf Because I don’t swing 125 mph I used to Swing about 115 now I Swing about 110 mph max. Was The machine wrong the clerk Told me its 100% accurate.
I was so stunned at my results that i went to a local driving range and hit my 5 wood 250 and 5 irion about 195. This was off some fluffy grass. I dont think the machine was flawed becuse I saw the guy bfeore me swing 85 mph and only hit driver 220. I do think the machin can give off false reading at times but maybe not.

Lets be honest here……Nobody hits a 5 Iron 235( lacking a 40 MPH tail wind and a 20 degree down slope)……..Needless to say their machine needs to be calibrated.

religious golf joke?

Posted by admin

Father Phelan was an avid golfer. Every chance he could get, he would be on the golf course. It was an obsession.

It was 4:00AM on Sunday morning and it looked like it would be a picture-perfect day for golf. The sun was rising, no clouds were in the sky, and the temperature was pleasant and rising.
The good Father couldn’t resist. He called a Parish assistant to tell him that he was sick and could not say Mass, packed the car up, and drove three hours to a golf course where he felt no one would know him. He was first there and first out by himself, another good break.

Happily, he began to play the course. An angel up above was watching Father Phelan and was quite perturbed.

He went to God and said, "Have a look at Father Phelan. He should be punished for what he is doing."

God nodded in agreement.

After a double on the first hole, the good Father teed up on the second. He swung at the ball, and it sailed effortlessly through the air and landed right in the cup 260 yards away. A p
picture-perfect hole-in-one. He was amazed and excited.

The angel was a little shocked. He turned to God and said, "I beg your pardon, but I thought you were going to punish him."

God smiled. "I did. Think about it; who can he tell?"

sure enough, the mere thought completely ruined the pastor’s day.

Moral of the story: don’t lie in life. the cold, hard truth has no mercy.

Additional joke, sorry for offending anyone….

Did you know that they also play golf in heaven? Those who play up there play really good too? Especially Heavenly Father. The course is also pretty long. I would say longer than the traditional 18 holes.

Here’s the scripture reference.

D&C 3:2

………………………………….
In ancient times, men would hit the ground with sticks and cursing while they did it.

Back then it was called witchcraft……..today it is called golf.

golf sway is killing me?

Posted by admin

I am a lefty golfer. I have a sway not on my backswing but on the downswing. On the downswing i sway forward and then i turn my hips. this causes me to lose my posture and hit it fat. does anyone have any tips to just turn my hips not sway and then turn. (when i put a shaft in front of my right leg and try to avoid it my swing is perfect. but when i take the shaft away i sway)
thanks for all of your help

Practice turning, turning and more turning. You have to pivot around a point turning hips, shoulders and arms in unison, around a stable point( the head ) eliminating the swaying of the rump entirely from the swing. As a Lefty, plant that right foot and let the downswing follow. Can’t state it any simpler. Oh!! Don’t forget the complete follow through with the belt buckle facing your target.

I need help with my golf backswing?

Posted by admin

I am a beginner and I am just learning the mid iron swing. When I swing back, my head seems to move however hard I try to stop it - This then lifts my body and I always seem to top the ball. Its getting on my nerves and I cannot seem to perfect it. Please help!

The backswing does not hit the golf ball, but this does not mean that executing a good backswing is not important. A good backswing will set the club in a position of power and control. Your body should feel like a coil, like a spring loading, getting ready to unwind. You can practice your backswing anywhere that you have enough space for a complete swing.

Steps
1. Start the backswing by sweeping the clubhead back smoothly. Be sure that your keep the clubhead low to the ground in this first step.

2. When swinging your club back, do not lose your balance. When your weight pressure presses down on your back foot, keep the pressure balanced to the inside of your foot. Although your clubhead is kept low to the ground, do not let this low swing pull you off balance.

3. As you swing the club back and up, you should feel weight pressure build up in your back leg; this is the beginning of feeling your body feeling like a tightening coil.

4. Continue to move your clubhead up, tightening the coil. Be careful not to press too much weight pressure onto the front of your back foot as you will not be able to complete your shoulder turn and you will lose clubhead speed.

5. For the advanced golfer, pay attention to the position of the clubface while making your coil. When the club reaches hip level, the shaft of the club should lay over the extended line of your feet. You can test this by laying a club back from your foot line. The toe of the clubface should be pointed up toward the sky.

6. Stay in your posture throughout the backswing by keeping the bend in your back leg throughout the entire backswing. Do not stand straight up with your body, but stay down so that you don’t move your body position.

7. Allow your shoulders to turn smoothly until your front shoulder is behind the golf ball. You should now be at the top of your swing and fully coiled.

What kind of golf ball should I use

Posted by admin

I do not have a registered handicap, but I hit in the high 90’s. Yes I need to work on getting consistant, and on my mechanics. I try to use a "straight" ball or a "distance" ball to reduce the effects of my swing errors. Until I get better what brand and core type would help me out the most for my less than perfect form?

Also can you suggest a "straight" ball that does not use a slick coating that will wash or were off?

Inspector Detector, save your money and use the cheapest balls you can find. When you’re shooting in the 90’s the ball isn’t the limiting factor…. you are.
Use the money you save to get some lessons with a PGA Pro and practice. In six months time you’ll be asking what ball should I use now I’m shooting in the low 80’s.

I am very interested in golf. I started about 3 months ago, I play on a regular basis about 3 times a week. I am continually getting better and working with a pro to perfect my swing. I am looking to find some type of help with the funding for lessons, training, equipment, ect. I am mainly looking to pursue golf for college and possibly and hopefully further it to the Nationwide tour.
Also, I am 21 years old, I appreciate the advice, but I don’t think I can get into the junior leagues, but maybe the adult amateurs, do you think I’m starting too late? I mean I learn very quickly, I’m competitive (even though sometimes I think I’m too hard on myself) and the main thing right now is that I am determined. I am about to spend 2 grand at golf tech for 6 months of weekly lessons and unlimited practice…..In comparison from the pros to the good amateurs, what is the competiton like in the tournaments.

Thanks for all of your help!

It sounds like you are pretty young like high school. I woud suggest caddying at a course close to your home. It is one of the easiest ways for a kid to make money.

In the late 90’s and early 00’s I remember seeing this huge ring made out of pvc piping, that you stood in and hooked your golf club into. It was supposed to train you to make the perfect full swing by repetition, since you were locked into it. What happened to them, did they work, what were they called, and how much did they cost? Thorough response to all 4 points will get best answer.

they’re still around. i’ve seen them at my local driving range. it’s actually a very good swing trainer that keeps your swing on plane. they do work well for getting a feel of staying on plane, but finding "your" plane is the issue they don’t necessarily address. i’m not sure what they’re called, nor do i know how much they cost, but i’m sure you could probably build your own with supplies from a hardware store that would be much cheaper than buying one.

Before I started playing tennis I had a decent golf swing and could hit a 7 iron straight about 150 yards. However I seem to be either pulling every other shot to the left or putting too much wrist in my swing which ends up sending the ball high but right, and of course once in a while the ball goes straight and looks perfect. I’m wondering if these two swings affect each other and what I can do to help correct my swing. I have tried adjusting my grip between interlock and overlap grip and positioning the hand in different spots. I was also experimenting turning my wrists(opening the clubface) during the upswing. It seems to provide better results but I’m not sure if I should?

To answer the first part, yes your tennis swing can effect your golf swing. The two are similar, but not the same.

Secondly, to fix the problem without seeing your swing is nearly impossible. There are so many variables in a golf swing you really need a PGA Professional at your local course to give you a lesson. He can fix in 30 minutes what you could struggle with for weeks. It really is worth it.

As a note on what you have tried so far, you really want to avoid actively turning your hands in the swing. It can lead to many problems. The hands should hinge naturally as a result of a good setup, and solid core movements.

If you have been messing with your grip I strongly recommend a book by Ben Hogan, called "The Modern Fundamentals of Golf." It clearly illustrates a proper grip.

On a more technical note, the shot pattern you are describing sounds more like a timing issue than anything. A Teaching Pro should be able to sort it out quickly.

Good luck!
