I currently have an x-stiff shaft on my driver. I went to my local golf store and they used a swing speed analyzer to see how fast I swing. The guy said I was on the border line between a stiff and an x-stiff shaft. I have a very powerful swing. I have one major problem. I am always slicing the ball. Every once in a while I hit a ball straight, but it still usually has a slice to it. I hit my irons perfectly straight, so I’m pretty sure it’s not my swing. Can anyone tell me if I should go down to a stiff flex or keep my x-stiff flex? Thanks!
Hitting irons are different from hitting a driver. You should get a stiff flex and swing easy with a inside out swing. That should help your slice. With a stiff flex you can pretty much swing all day with it and not being tired.

Think I could get a book deal with this one???
That’s a great book idea.
I have travelled all over the world. Some flights are great others are not so great.
But last week I had a unsettleing flight. The flight attendant was so imature. He laughed through the entire safety speech and when he talked about emergency floor lighting he pretended he was swinging a golf club.
Ok I know it becomes a bore listening to the same safety speech when you travel alot. But safety is important.
Oh, and the attendant never even did a proper cross check. He did a head count but never checked to ensure that passengers all had thier seat belts secured for departure and landing. Considering some of the tiny kids on the plane, the attendant should have done his job.
So do you feel safe when you fly? Do you have trust in your flight crew?
Neil…calm down!! OMG man, I wasn’t jumping on you personally. Yes I know what the job of a flight attendant is, and I def don’t need a speech from you! Never assume someone has no knowledge when you know nothing of them.
If you are getting personally defensive and all I did was call out 1 bad flight attendant, how would handle a real stressfull situation? OMG I wouldn’t want you as my FA.
Hi,
I’m sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience. Well, like in all jobs, you can’t get everyone to be competent at it or responsible.
In the office, you’ll get people stealing stationery, making numerous personal calls when the boss isn’t around, have long lunches, etc. In a restaurant, you’ll find inattentive waiters, irresponsible and unhygienic chefs, etc. Even in a clinic, you may find rude nurses, uncaring doctors and also (I swear this is true) admin staff deliberately overcharging you to pocket the money!
So in an airline, you can come across lazy, bored, tactless and irresponsible flight attendants. Of course, they shouldn’t be so oblivious to their actions; forgetting that passengers are always observing them. Frankly, that guy on your flight is an idiot! You should have written in a complaint against him. This sort of behaviour sould not be tolerated… not even in the lousiest airline!

I am a 6 handicap golfer. I play extremely legit…(No gimmies, playing the proper stakes for OB, etc.) I have a set of Big Bertha X-22 irons. I have a light flex shaft that is graphite. I know light flex is not good for me but I don’t know what to switch to. I need something inexpensive as well. I swing somewhat hard… Recently, I have been catching a lot off the toe as well as hitting with an open face… Could this be the problem/ Thanks.
As a 6 handicap player , how did you get stuck with light flex graphite shafts ? Instead of getting new shafts for your clubs, look for a good sale at a golf store or pro shop and invest in steel shafted new clubs. Sell the graphites to a senior who is always looking for a bargain.
I a rookie golfer and am looking to get a new set of clubs to replace my old school Tommy Armours. I can hit all my clubs 3-SW, 3w, driver fairly decently but I’m not consistent. I would say solid contact 90% of the time, straight and ‘proper distance’ about 60% while playing on the course. I hit much better at the range of course…
I’m looking at either the Slingshots of Sumos to improve my game. I can get a good deal on either set - which would you recommend and why?
5′7" 165 with a somewhat fast swing.
Here’s a link to a site that gives you the ratings for all new irons out there:

It’s from Ralph Maltby, one of the most well known golf experts out there. His site has a lot of good articles too.
So I am trying to master my golf swing on my own and I think I may be on to something. Would you agree that with the higher irons (7, 8, 9, pw…) that the emphasis on hitting the ball far and straight is more about spine rotation. When using the lower irons and woods, the emphasis is more about hip rotation coupled with the proper spine rotation? Would everyone else more or less agree with this statement?
Echoing what was said earlier, with a little clarification.
As your irons get shorter, your stance will be closer to the ball at address. Your swing is made the same no matter the iron when you are hitting off the fairway, and the ball is sitting up the same. When the ball is in a divot, in the rough, is on a side, or downhill lie, and/or you need to either pop the ball higher, hit it lower, etc., you swing/stance will change….
BUT at your stage in the game, just learn one swing that works for you. The golf swing is a multi-body part chaos that just works when you get it right. When done wrong, well you look like Charles Barkley.
Hi. I am (severely) left-handed (as in I can barely use my right hand for anything) and I started playing golf when I was about 9-10. I have been living in malaysia since I was about 3 and at the time I started golf, my Dad couldn’t find a lefty set my size, so bought my a righty set.
My relationship with golf has been an on-off one and I did drop it at about 11 or 12 (by this time I had proper sized right-hand clubs). I am now 15 and have picked it up again, and it has been going well (for my standard :S).
Recently I picked up my dads old lefty golf clubs (he is right handed but playes all 2 handed sports the lefty way) and tried swinging them in my garden. At first it felt a bit unnatural, but after a while I felt as if I could put a lot more power into the swing compared with my other clubs as I can’t hit too far with my right handed clubs.
Should I make the switch to left-handed clubs as I suppose I am still a beginner and I think I would probably perform better playing the left-handed way?
Thanks!
Since you favor the left hand and you said the left handed club now feels more natural, I would switch your stance to take full advantage of your preference.
